He is sure that as long as you are capable of self-reflexive thought, you exist. If you can recognise that at this moment you are thinking, then you are existing. The existential crisis comes with the questioning of what the self really is in comparison to the rest of the world. And I think you really touched on that. It is all ultimately subjective. There is no objectivity in the self. Everyone exists within certain spheres defined for themselves. But the question of sleep and dream is one that I find endlessly fascinating. And it is another thing that Descartes talks about, as does Zhuang Zi. Whether you are you when dreaming or someone else. Is your 'reality' your dream state or vice versa? Its like when Calvin (from Calvin and Hobbes) looks into a puddle of water and wonders whether he's the real one or the boy in the puddle. I want to see rice-feilds too, and smell mud. And sometimes I miss how murky puddles are nit formed when it rains. I enjoy that the streets are clean, but maybe the feilds are unnaturally green, maybe the grass is unnaturally thick. Thankfully, I can see colors here. I have colorful friends (both in terms of the color of their skin and in the clothes they wear) and once in a while, I wear my kurti, lined with mirrors. Not that it changes where I am, but it makes me satisfied about not having changed as a person becasue of the place. Oh, and I'm gonna start blogging again (advertise gardya ni...)
